Materials
Cardboard is a relatively inexpensive material made out of paper, with high structural strength relative to its weight and is found in several thicknesses and shades. As a light weight material the cardboard can be great for insulating and protecting against heat and impacts and thus it is widely use for packaging all kinds of products, from fast food to TV sets. It is also in use for storage, for modeling and more. As a recyclable material it is often prefered when we have to choose between plastic and cardboard.
Cardboards are produced in two main forms: either as a dense layer or as a combination of flat layers, in which layers are attached to a wavy structure, which gives great strength to the cardboard, especially in the direction that stands in the direction of the wave.
Common Cardboard
A very common cardboard, 1.5 mm thick, comes in a cream shade and a lighter cream (whitened) color, mainly used in the field of architectonic modelling, stencils, prototypes etc.
Gray cardboard (compressed) - Medium strength carton, uniform density, and various thicknesses. Mainly used in printing, packaging, displays and more.
Corrugated cardboard - from one small wave to three layered waves or a combination of waves of different sizes has high strength to weight ratio. Used for exhibition stands, packaging, showcase design, interior design and exhibition pavilions.
Duplex carton - double layer cardboard in a variety of thicknesses, mainly used in the packaging and modeling fields.
Laser cutting of cardboard
Most cardboards can be lasercut very quickly with fine and detailed results. Thicker cardboard cutting might end with some soot on the cutting line but can be usually cleaned with a cloth. We are able to lasertcut a three-corrugated cardboard up to a thickness of 12 mm.
Applications - designed stands, special stencils, variable design tools, original wedding invitations, stencils for coloring, signs, prototypes, displays and more.
Laser engraving on cardboard
Laser engraving on cardboard gives very special and different results depending on the type of cardboard on which the engraving is performed. Playing with the laser power can yield various etching effects such as special textures that appear to be handmade. The engraving is done uniformly and fast, and enables the etching of large areas efficiently and at a relative low price.
Applications - interior design, special packaging design, showcase displays, stalls and exhibitions design and more.
